Andrew McCaldon

Andrew is an award-winning writer for theatre, TV and the concert hall.

His music-drama BENNY & HITCH (BBC Radio 3) was nominated for Best Original Drama at the Audio Drama Awards and won Andrew the prestigious Imison Award for writing. His other work as a dramatist includes: ANOTHER STAR TO STEER BY (Brighton Festival); I AM TRUMPET (Southbank Centre, London); GNOMUS (Puppets With Guts, touring) and HELLO YOU, TRY ME!

For television, Andrew created and wrote the TV show ABRACADOPERA! (SKY / English National Opera) and the acclaimed TEN PIECES film series for the BBC (BAFTA winner). Other TV work includes: THE CBEEBIES PROM: OFF TO THE MOON (BBC); GUIN AND THE DRAGON (BBC); and two series of films POETRY: BETWEEN THE LINES (BBC: both BAFTA winners).

Andrew’s live shows, combining music and drama, include LIFT OFF! (BBC Symphony Orchestra/ Barbican); ADVENTURE AT SEA (BBC Concert Orchestra/ Royal Festival Hall); JOURNEY TO THE SINGDOM KINGDOM (BBC Singers/ Milton Court); and the TEN PIECES PROMS (BBC TV/ Royal Albert Hall). As Creative Director, Andrew devised WEMBA’S DREAM, an annual community-led celebration of the arts, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
