Bio

For 27 years Jonathan directed ACE funded multi-award-winning touring company, Red Shift. He has reinvented classics, made crowd-embedded performance, pocket musicals, circus and new work for UK and International touring. Jonathan has written copiously for the BBC including a Prix Italia prize winning 1984, original dramas for the Arthur Miller centenary (starring Ed Harris) and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. Recent theatre includes TALE OF TWO CITIES: BLOOD FOR BLOOD (Hong Kong and Edinburgh Festival), and large scale site-specific productions of 1984, BRAVE NEW WORLD, DON QUIXOTE and THE TIME MACHINE (in collaboration with The Wellcome Institute). He adapted Dickens’ THE SIGNALMAN for b’cast and stage production, updated the play GASLIGHT (b’cast Christmas Day 2022), created a new version of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (b’cast Christmas Day 2023) and a drama about cinema pioneers in Brighton called CASTING SHADOWS. Plans are in place for him to direct versions Henry James’ THE ASPERN PAPERS and Hugo’s LES MISERABLES in 2025, and for a return to producing in HK. “fine theatre, sincerely performed in an innovative style… could fit into international festivals or [be] produced in a theatre anywhere.” - Edinburgh Fringe Review
