Bio

Mark is an experienced, award-winning and highly versatile creator of theatre, outdoor spectacle, major civic celebrations and international ceremonies. He works across a range of disciplines applying his skills as director, writer, designer, film-maker and creative lead on such projects.

He is currently developing new projects including theatre show UMBILICAL backed by Arts Council England and Creative Scotland and an outdoor show THE EMPATHY MACHINE supported by Leeds 2023, Birmingham Rep and Without Walls.

Recent credits include: RE-MATCH WIMBLEDON, an ingenious recreation of the Borg vs McEnroe 1980 Wimbledon final (2019 Campaign Experience Gold & Silver Awards); OUT OF THIS WORLD at the V&A – Mark provided production design for the Staging Places Exhibition (2019/2020); and as writer, director and film-maker for OUT OF THIS WORLD – a 27 date middle-scale theatre tour.

Other large scale events have included directing and designing the GLASGOW 2014 COMMONWEALTH GAMES Closing Ceremony, ON THE CASE, an outdoor aerial show for the MELBOURNE COMMONWEALTH GAMES Cultural Festival in 2006 (Winner of Helpmann Awards for Best Choreography and Best Production)  the opening shows for Liverpool and Turku, Finland’s  European City of Culture in 2008 and 2011 respectively,  THE PRESTON PASSION (BBC1) in 2012 (Winner of the RTS award for Best Live Event), the Baku 1st EUROPEAN GAMES FLAME CAPTURE CEREMONY and the Eventia Gold Award winning ceremony SEEDS OF CHANGE  for the Global Skills & Education Forum Opening Ceremony, Dubai / Abu Dhabi.

Previously Mark also created a number of more conventional scale theatre pieces including THE RECOVERY POSITION (NTS) 2004, ACCIDENTAL HEROES (Lyric Hammersmith) 2005, THE NIGHT SHIFT (Fuel Theatre/Traverse Theatre) 2006 and NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE for Northern Stage.
