Bio

Matthew Iliffe is an award-winning theatre director, specialising in new writing. He's directed multiple critically acclaimed world premieres including Foam by Harry McDonald at Finborough Theatre, Breeding by Barry McStay at the King’s Head Theatre and Bacon by Sophie Swithinbank, which has enjoyed acclaimed runs at the Finborough Theatre, Riverside Studios, Summerhall Edinburgh Bristol Old Vic and transferred to SoHo Playhouse Off-Broadway. For his work on Bacon, he won the Best Director of a Play at the Off West End Theatre Awards.

Recent directing credits: Snakes & Ladders (Oxford School of Drama/Southwark Playhouse), Nell Gwynn (Arts Ed), Foam (Finborough Theatre), Breeding (King's Head Theatre), Bacon (Finborough and touring, including transfer to SoHo Playhouse NYC), Four Play (Above The Stag), The Niceties, Maggie May (both Finborough Theatre) and The Burnt Part Boys (Park Theatre).

Recent assisting/associate credits: Assassins (Chichester Festival Theatre, Dir. Polly Findlay), Black Superhero (Royal Court, Dir. Daniel Evans), Musik (Leicester Square Theatre, Dir. Josh Seymour) and Brass (National Youth Music Theatre/Hackney Empire, Dir. Hannah Chissick).

Matthew holds a BA (Hons) in Theatre & Performance Studies from the University of Bristol, where he graduated with First Class honors. Additionally, he trained through the StoneCrabs Young Directors Programme in 2014 and last year participated in the National Theatre Directors' Course.
