Bio

Nicola Baldwin is a writer and director. In 2024-25 Adopt-A-Playwright are 'fostering' development of her new play WASTELAND and she’s under commission to the National Theatre for NT Connections 2027. Nicola was selected for The Writers Lab UK & Ireland with her sci-fi feature script BLACK MOSS which she is now developing alongside other feature and TV ideas. She recently wrote and directed the short film The Nervous State. 

As a writer, her plays have been commissioned or produced by the Royal Court, Royal Exchange, Crucible, the egg, Unicorn, Theatre of Debate, Resonance FM, BBC Radio 3 & 4, and have won the George Devine award, Time Out theatre award, twice shortlisted for Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and three times for BBC Audio awards. Nicola is an MGCfutures bursary recipient for Woman From MarsShe has written original TV single dramas for new writing strands on ITV/BBC, multiple episodes of ITV series, and pilot scripts for United / Mammoth and World Productions/Skreba Films.

As a director, she’s made music videos, dance films and several short dramas. During the pandemic Nicola collaborated with NHS Healthcare Scientists and actors on The Nosocomial Project which won the CSO Partnering Patients and Citizens award from the Chief Scientific Officer of NHS England and an international Antibiotic Guardian award.
