Bio

Paul is co-artistic director of Clod Ensemble and has written original scores for all the company’s productions to date – including: SILVER SWAN, a piece for seven singers (Tate Modern, Turbine Hall); UNDER GLASS, a surround-sound installation (Sadler’s Wells); and AN ANATOMIE for electronics, live orchestra and a rock band (Sadler’s Wells/WMC/Lowry).

Paul has written chamber operas for Opera North and Welsh National Opera and dozens of scores for theatre in the UK and internationally, including with director Katie Mitchell , WAVES (National Theatre UK) and WUNSCHKONZERT (Koln Schauspiel) and with Gare St Lazare with whom he created HERE ALL NIGHT (Lincoln Center, New York). In Spring 2019 Paul composed the score for NORMA JEANE BAKER OF TROY featuring Renee Fleming as part the inaugural season at The Shed, New York.

He has written music for and with a hugely diverse range of musicians from Manchester Collective to Danger Mouse, the Welsh National Opera chorus and Mark E Smith (The Fall). In TV,film and radio he has collaborated with Simon Amstell, Arnaud Desplechin, John Michael McDonagh and David Sedaris and for gallery and video works with 59 Productions at venues including V&A and Hampton Court. He as written music for commercials including Intel, Honda and Guiness.
