RICHARD TAYLOR is a composer and lyricist who spends time in the classical as well as theatre world. Recent commissions include works for the BBC Philharmonic, Garsington Opera (The Moon Is Listening YAM 2024 Award) and Grange Festival Opera. The musical Flowers for Mrs Harris (WhatsOnStage Best Musical Award 2024, UKTheatreAwards Best Musical Award 2016), was first produced at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre, with subsequent productions at Chichester Festival Theatre and London Riverside Theatre, as well as internationally with translations into Czech and Swedish, and US premiere in 2025. Other musicals include The Go-Between (UK Theatre Awards Best Musical 2012), produced regionally then in the West End starring Michael Crawford, and the first musical adaptation of Whistle Down the Wind. A dramatic oratorio Calderland (2018 Royal Philharmonic Society Award), for mass choir and orchestra was composed for performance in the historic Piece Hall in Halifax. Richard has composed scores for almost 100 plays around the UK and in the West End. Film and TV ranges from the thriller The Brides In The Bath to the Buzz and Tell for CBeebies, and the animated film Father Christmas and the Missing Reindeer (Cosgrove Hall Films). Richard was awarded the silver medal by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
